Our First Visitor!

New Photos are up in the Gallery from last week/weekend.
Our friend Ken was our first official guest and we had a good ‘ol time.
On Wednesday, while Christina was at work, Liam and I took him on a wild goose chase around Chinatown looking for a row of shops that I recall visiting 3 years ago. We found it eventually and stopped to check out a Buddhist Temple along the way. Later we met Christina for dinner at Clarke Quay.

On Thursday, all four of us took a day trip to Sentosa Island. It is part of Singapore and is connected by a bridge. It was only about a 20 minute drive from our house. There are all sorts of recreation/tourist attractions there and we managed to check out a couple: Underwater World and Fort Siloso.

Underwater World is basically a fancy Aquarium that apparently set it’s it’s criteria for selecting the species of fish on whether or not they were characters in “Finding Nemo”. They had Tortoises, Jellyfish, Anemones, Clown Fish, Sharks, Dories, and pretty much every other salt water fish featured in the movie. They also had some very cool crabs and some other tiny glowy blob things that I’d never seen or heard of before.

We also visited Fort Siloso which was a British outpost in WWII until they were over run by the Japanese. Legend has it that they had their big guns facing the wrong direction when the Japanese attacked and not one of them was fired. The tour guide made a note of the legend as we were about to get off the bus and said that they were, in fact fired, but he wasn’t very convincing. Later that day we headed over to Orchard Road – Singapore’s main shopping strip – to show Ken Christmas Singapore Style.

On Friday we jumped on a Ferry for Bintan, Indonesia. We stayed at the Bintan Lagoon Resort. The weather cooperated and we spent a majority of our days by the pool or on the beach. Ken and I also managed to sneak in a bit of golf on the Jack Nicklaus Seaview course where our caddy helped us fend off the wild monkeys. But seriously, it was a nice course and the views were a notch above the Fort Snelling course in St. Paul (or is that in Mpls?).

We had a great time and want to thank Ken for making the long trip.

P.S. If you’re looking for a clever Christmas gift, check out P.B. Loco. Or get some for yourself… choosy mothers don’t know what they’re missing.
