India, Part 4: Auroville & The Beach
Posted on 22. Jan, 2008 by Rob in Uncategorized

Sunday we had a full day planned. After breakfast, we hopped on our trusty bus and headed out of the city to Auroville. I won’t dig too deep into what Auroville is all about, you can check it out on your own on THEIR WEBSITE, but basically it is a concept community which is painstakingly planned out and at the center of town is a kick-ass golden orb. The orb, or the Matrimandir, is actually a meditation sanctuary which I would have loved to go into, but we didn’t really have time, but you can see the exploded view of a model in one of the photos.Â
After lunch at Auroville we headed towards the beach which turned out to be a bit of a buzzkill for some of the ladies because local standards don’t really allow for half-naked women anywhere.
We still had fun playing cricket and soccer. We also witnessed a nearby funeral procession and watched as they buried and burned the corpse. What day at the beach is complete without that?
