Bhutan: Days 5-6
Posted on 09. Nov, 2009 by Rob in Travel
Days 5 and 6 were mainly spent hiking to and camping at a glade atop a mountain. Sounds peaceful and serene, but the hike up was a bit more challenging than the marketing brochure let on. Fortunately we had a small herd of small horses to carry most of our gear. Once at the top, the view was impressive and the bottle of wine we brought to celebrate Mike and Susan’s 2nd anniversary tasted 10 times better than the $7 we paid for it at the airport duty free shop. The hike down was a bit more pleasant despite losing sight of our guide and getting lost in the woods for a half hour or so and then navigating a treacherous, narrow, hand carved ladder that jutted out over a 100 ft drop. We’re usually up for the adventurous route, but this made me a bit queasy.
Eventually we made it to the Taktsang Monastery (AKA The Tiger’s Nest) where we took a tour of the most holy and auspicious place in Bhutan. The next day, we were on our way to Kathmandu, Nepal.
